Who knew that my garage doors would be such a huge hit? Well, actually I did because to be down right honest, I am still thoroughly impressed with myself almost 2 weeks later. This has to be one of the best projects ever. What classifies as “best” to me is #1. It is cheap to do, #2. It totally transforms the space and #3. is that there is no way we could have afforded it any other way therefore making me look a genius. Yep, this project is totally one of the best we have ever done.

Your color choice of Minwax Gel Stain
Cheap Paint Brush about 2″
Step One- You will want to clean the garage door to remove any dirt and grime that is currently on the door. I just used some good old Dawn dish soap, a soapy rag and old scotch brite blue scrubbing pad, and water. Rinse off all of the soap really well after you scrub away and let dry.
Step Three- I started in the far top left hand corner. You will want to look at which way you want the grain to go. On the larger parts I took my brush in a left to right motion working back and forth. For the inset I trimmed out the square and then I ran the brush in the lines. I then used a back and forth motion, up and down and side to side to mix the grain up. Seeing the brush strokes is fine because that is what adds the texture. You want to cover up your previous color, but not have the stain thick.
Repeat until finished. And then add the hardware of your choice to your garage door. Screw in per the instructions. You will want to measure and level them.
Stand back and be thoroughly impressed with yourself. Grab a lawn chair, a cold beer, and sit and admire your work!!
It took me about 3 hours from start to finish on this little project, I think. I would paint when the garage door is in the shade because the gel stain dries quick. You want to be able to move it around before it dries. That’s it. It really is that simple.
